First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

nothing you said is incorrect, however the debate rests on if someone whose home is being invaded should be able to defend themselves (not necessarily their property) with equal force as is being presented.

if someone breaks in to your house with a knife, and you turn it around and stab them instead, hardly anyone would argue that you should be prosecuted for that. the extension of that logic goes for any weapon - bat, crowbar, and yes, even gun.

similarly, if the country ("your home") was invaded by armed people, there's zero debate about the reasonableness of shooting them. home invasions can be considered merely a micro version of a ground invasion.

I’m sad that you didn’t recognize my comment as irony. It is also wrong. I don’t think there’s any provable correlation between civilian ownership of guns and crime

We dont even need to get into the humanitarian aspect that what amounts to an extra-judicial murder would disproportionately impact BIPOC people and people experiencing poverty.

literally the case - poor people commit way more violent crimes than non-poor people. there are way more BIPOC people who are poor than white people (as a % of their respective populations).

Public health experts agree.

generally, public health experts do agree that shooting someone is bad and could lead to their death.

I said more guns = more violence, then you and your study changed it to more guns = more gun violence. Thats the only part that really matters, the rest is completely irrelevant, its just brain dead and thought-terminating nonsense pushed by people that hate us.
