What they forget to mention is that the exemption is only for .22 pistols and the market for .22 pistols is very slim and overpriced.

SFC currently only issuing exception letters for 22, I think 17hmr (maybe it’s .177 air pistol >500 fps??) too but I’m not 100% sure about that. They’re not approving anything for centre fire afaik, even 32ACP, which is what we use for bullseye centre fire

How do you send the proof that you are practicing. Any help would be appreciated.

for practices, just write down your scores from each practice, put it in a document (I put it in a text file), and upload it.

For SFC sanctioned matches, you need to have the link to the results of that competition, and put it in the form.

Mws. Training about a month (~4 entries) is what I was told. Personally I did about 3 months.

There's lots of 22 handguns that can be converted to 9mm. Cz Kadet models for example. Also, you can import guns through places like IRunGuns

I like the idea. I wonder what the chances are that the import comes in and the CFO rejects it for whatever reason, despite my exemption. Now I’ve got a handgun in Canada stuck at the importer that I paid for. I’d have to get a new letter issued to get a different model but that’s easy enough.

They shouldn't reject it, but you never really know. I do intend on trying it since I have one in the shop. Just need to get off my ass and get the letter.

There’s no fast and hard rule, it’s pretty much completely up to the CFO. However, in general, the pistol must be:

  • manufactured in the discipline’s calibre (22); and,
  • be suitable and is already used in the discipline you will participate in, or is designed specifically for the discipline.

Can’t say I’ve seen CZ Kadets in competition at all. Someone brought up Glocks, which would be easily denied as they don’t come with adjustable sights, and thus is ill-fitted for purpose.

Nothing special You say it is was for recoil and trigger control training. Centerfire IS an ISSF discipline as well. At Provincials and National we shoot Centerfire matches. Apparently less than .40 cal are being approved for those competing SFC gets access to score tracker. Provincial and nationals as well. They know that you are participating in Sanctioned matches. So do the min and then apply bobs your uncle.

You're right, it's slim but it's also a buyer's market for the people who do want to sell.

The gunsmith / store I'm getting it from has it at pretty reasonable prices. He basically said he didn't know what to do with those pistols cause of the freeze / restrictions until a group of us started competing in ISSF competitions and got our letters.
