I like the idea. I wonder what the chances are that the import comes in and the CFO rejects it for whatever reason, despite my exemption. Now I’ve got a handgun in Canada stuck at the importer that I paid for. I’d have to get a new letter issued to get a different model but that’s easy enough.
They shouldn't reject it, but you never really know. I do intend on trying it since I have one in the shop. Just need to get off my ass and get the letter.

What they forget to mention is that the exemption is only for .22 pistols and the market for .22 pistols is very slim and overpriced.
