Misc Can anyone ID this rifle?

Post image

I've been told it might be a Lee Enfield, possibly a No. 4 MK I or a SMLE. But after looking at photos the magazine here isn't located close to the trigger guard or maybe I'm misunderstanding something. It's my dad in this photo, but he passed away several years ago, or I'd have asked him directly. Anyway, I'll appreciate any insight or clues, thanks!

AG42 in 6.5X55

I confirm it’s an AG42. 👌

I have one, and couldn’t believe it when the LPC banned it as well.

I had fantasies about running it for 3gun.

Bud, just stop touting CPC campaign talking points. The CPC is dead, like it or not. Focus on getting on good terms with, checks notes, any other political party that has a chance of getting votes. They might as well have opted for MAID rather than associating themselves with Trump. Maybe we’ll get our Armalite rifles back.

Where did I “tout CPC talking points” or deny that the CPC is dead?

Did you reply to the wrong comment?

-2

u/Sweetchildofmine88 Apr 18 '26

That’s fair. No, I was pointing out that the LPC is actually not bringing up gun laws in the news at all and from the looks of it, things are getting lax as far as Armalite is concerned. If we keep talking about it, it stays fresh in everyone else’s minds.

It was the LPC that banned the AG42 and many others via undemocratic OIC.

WTF are you talking about?

“Things are getting lax as far as Armalite is concerned.”

Are you high?

I'd say it's a bot but even bots are more coherent than this guy.

Your response tells me why though. If you behaved like civilized human beings, maybe the administration would have some reason to listen to you.

Stop bringing attention toward the issue. Take a hint!

Thank you very much!

You’re welcome. Watch your fingers if you ever get to take one out and use it. It makes Garand Thumb feel like you got whacked with a pool noodle. They are excellent rifles!

Stock disk and protruding stripper clip guide on the dust cover, I am 99.9% sure this is an AG42.

SVT does not have an obviously protruding clip guide, it's just a groove cut into the dust cover. It also doesn't have a stock disk. The SVT magazine is also longer.

That's the rubberized shell deflector on the right-side's slanted surface. The transistor-style charging handle knobs indicate an AG42B.

OP, if the name is unfamiliar, it's a Swedish direct-impingement thumb-crusher, (and sure enough your father's right thumb isn't visible in the photo). Closest you can get now is its bolt-action Mauser predecessor (M96 or M38).

u/Confident-Ad9628 Apr 18 '26

Oh my precious ag42 how I miss you so

7

u/Content_Sky_2676 Apr 18 '26

As others have said, AG42.

Slap whoever said it could be an enfield.

2

u/KingLatifo Apr 19 '26

This is so hilarious because after looking up examples I kept pointing out that the mag didn't match, and still, they'd insist that it could only be the Enfield. And by they, I mean Google AI.

-7

u/PM_me_ur_TT-33 Apr 18 '26

That's excessive. Stock disc plus protruding box mag is going to be an Enfield in the vast majority of cases.

8

u/DougMacRay617 Apr 18 '26

This in no way resembles a lee Enfield

-4

u/PM_me_ur_TT-33 Apr 18 '26

Yeah, that's pretty obvious. Here. My point was that literally slapping someone whose entire milsurp vocabulary is on the level of "SMLE, No4, Mauser, SKS" is counterproductive.

2

u/Brandon_awarea Apr 18 '26

Yeah from the perspective of someone like me that’s obviously not a Lee Enfield but from the average PAL owner they probably couldn’t even tell the difference between an enfield and a mosin.

It’s like if you bought me a picture of a modern deer rifle. I wouldn’t know the difference between a tikka or a Remington 700 from 10 yards away because frankly I don’t really care. My hunting rifle is the only one I know.

But you show me an SKS and I’ll tell you exactly where/when it was made

AG M/42B Ljungman, one of the first Direct gas Impingement semi-automatic battle rifles. They are wonderful shooting rifles in 6.5X55 Swede, sadly they were banned.

3

u/AdeptArt Apr 18 '26

Doesn’t look like an SMLE to me either. An Ag42 perhaps?

3

u/DougMacRay617 Apr 18 '26

Lol who ever said enfield needs their eyes checked

2

u/goshathegreat Apr 18 '26

Another historical gun banned by the liberals…

1

u/FunkyFrunkle Apr 18 '26

AG42B. I had one as well, they’re nice rifles.

1

u/Psyex Apr 18 '26

AG-42 that shell defector is a dead giveaway.

1

u/KingLatifo Apr 19 '26

I appreciate all of your help! The knowledge and supportive community in this subreddit never ceases to amaze me.

-2

u/Asleep_Log1377 Apr 18 '26

Hard to tell. Is that an svt40?

6

u/AdeptArt Apr 18 '26

SVT 40 doesn’t have the barrel band I’m inclined to think ag42 like the other guy is saying

1

u/Classic_rock_fan Apr 18 '26

SVT doesn't have a rubber brass deflector and the lugs on the top of the bolt carrier.

-12

u/Current-Speed4096 Apr 18 '26

either German or Soviet. definitely not lee enfield

5

u/Classic_rock_fan Apr 18 '26

Swedish actually
