Application / Regulation advice Norinco 7.62x39 red box accuracy?
Good day, what has been others experience with this ammo and it's accuracy out of an sks? My experience has been poor with an average group of about 4 inches at 50 meters. I can have 2 rounds next to each other , then the third 4 inches away. Flyers are quite common as well. Not sure if it's the ammo or rifle. (French tickler).

Yeah at 50 yards I was actually getting a 1 foot MOA with my SKS 15.
Truly a to whom this might concern accuracy cause past 100 its a solid guess where its going.

My Russian SKS gets similar accuracy with Red box. My BCL Bison in 7.62x39 with a 12" barrel does a lot better so id say its a combo of the ammo and sks

You should be able to get 2-3 MOA with an sks and any ammo, at best. It's not a precision rifle.

In my neck of the woods all the culling is done inside 100m often less. Realisticaly most hunter dont shoot outside of 100m of course some guys here might says they've done it but 3moa is still good enough to hit the vitals at that distance.

Combo of ammo and the fact it's an sks. Pie plate at 100 if you're lucky but that's a dead soldier on the battlefield.

I’m fairly new to shooting (PAL last year) and my son mainly shot our SKS. I shot about forty rounds one afternoon and put some paper up at 100yards with Redbox. https://ibb.co/p68kTVYz

The lack of accuracy is probably moreso due to your SKS than the ammo, that’s my guess.

I found them to be pretty accurate I never measured, but the target was always hit

Went through about 200 rounds of this shit in my Russian SKS and had no issues. Just dont trust the non corrosive part it is indeed corrosive

I shoot it all the time in my CZ trail, my batches have never shown any corrosion

I can hold 1" groups with my fn 49, and m1 garand at 50, but it could still be me, I suppose.

For me it was the front post being kinda chunky. There’s replacements that are skinny out there

ITs much worse than surp in my experience, but its still sufficient. Remember this is just remanufactured surplus with a new primer, and seemingly less QC than the original

A good example, I get about 2.5-3moa out of it in my CZ600 Alpha, but with decent brass cased it'll do 1moa or less. It's the ammo, but the SKS also just isn't that accurate (which is why I've always found it funny in its "protected" status as an indigenous hunting rifle, it's not a very good hunting rifle).
My SKS will do 3-5moa with brass or steel cased. Doesn't make much difference in it.

I am sitting on some surplus, but I'm looking to reload at this point for the giggles. The fliers get to me after a while. Hoarding brass that others left behind.
A French Tickler I assume would be too new to be likely to have a loose stock to receiver fit. I've had to shim up my beat up Tula.
Bulk, indifferent ammo woes I guess.

My big spam can of Norico, that I assume is the same, I shot a like 3" group at 50 yards after sighting in.

I tend to stay away from this ammo. Last batch I bought I had lots with the necks cracking (noticed when picking up empty cases). Old surplus is the way for these rifles

While it's essentially non-corrosive Chinese surplus, it isn't that bad for accuracy.
I've had it shoot down to 1 moa on bench rest from my SKS. But it's more 2-3 moa in general offhand.
I think 4 inches at 50 meters is a little bit of a skill issue, especially if it's supported, but that means there's room for improvement!
Remember to focus on your front sight, and try to shoot at the bottom of your exhale, ideally between heartbeats. Don't jerk your trigger either.
Then you'll be shooting with the best conscripts!

It could be both the rifle and the ammo. 8 MOA is pretty common for the SKS. Good enough for a conscript.

You gotta experiment to answer that question. In my experience, SKS rifles in optimal conditions should reliably be patterning better then 4 moa. Many may even pattern 2.5-3.5 moa with ammo they really like.

Best case you are getting 2moa worst you are getting 6moa (probably 2-4) out of an sks but in confident that the ammo itself groups tighter than that.

I had a Ruger American ranch that was shooting 1" groups at 100 yards.
I think in a decently accurate rifle you can get good/decent accuracy but in a sks probably shit.

I got flak on here before for saying this, but please please check your SKS after shooting this stuff.
I didn't because "its non-corrosive". The whole gas system was rusted up. Never once shot anything else but that from it. I suspect not entirely 100% have the non-corrosive primers.

I've had this happen too. I shot quite a few boxes of 23 stamped ammo (so made in 2023), never had an issue for a couple hundred rounds, and then one of the last times I took it out, as usually, shot a couple boxes and then put the SKS away when I got home. Took it out a few weeks later to clean it and found rust all through the barrel, gas tube, bolt
90% I find it's not corrosive, the Chinese like to throw in the odd corrosive rounds just to fuck with us.
The more recent stuff I've bought has been 2025 stamped, and so far, it has been non corrosive, but I still don't trust it.
I ended up buying a CZ600 in x39 so I could burn up my big stash of red box and spam cans without having to deal with cleaning a gas system everytime

It's not the rifle, norinco red box is corrosive and inconsistent. Try some stuff from S&B it costs more but it's considered budget consistency. Should be doing 5 shots 2-3 inches at 100m
