The bill makes important changes to Section 34 of the Criminal Code so that force is presumed to be justified if used against an illegal intruder. Conservatives first announced the ‘Stand on Guard’ principle back in August, asking the government to introduce legislation in the fall session.

You're kind of proving my point here. When he called for defence of homes protections he did it in August after the election. When there was nothing to campaign for. It was token shit.

Except that it was brought up in his election too. CTV and CBC ran quite a few articles saying Pierre was going to far with it. Also saying he raised the issue in after doesn’t even invalidate the position. Politicians continue to advocate for policy changes between elections all the time especially when reacting to court rulings or public safety debates. Raising a policy outside an election cycle doesn’t make it meaningless; it often means they’re trying to build support before the next legislative window, but you refuse to acknowledge that because PP bad.

He was criticized for saying he was going to use the Notwithstanding Clause for the first time on the federal level to reinstate Mandatory Minimums which was a large part of the Safe Communities Act of 2013 which the Supreme Court deemed illegal and unconstitutional.

And the Safe Communities Act created the reasonable force doctrine that Pierre criticized back in August.

You might not remember this but it went through quite a few changes in the house, the criticisms laid are what had to given up to get it passed.

Do you honestly think self defence laws are in a good place in Canada right now? That's a bold take.
