MRA Renegade, what do we think? I’ve had nothing but fun with it.

As far as doing drills and shooting quickly, I think levers are the only way

I do drills with my CZ trail. Works pretty well.

I run an oversized bolt knob and shoot mad minute style. The trigger is only 1.5lb (though measured more like 1.35, possibly due to being very broken in at this point and I have several thousand rounds through it) and I have large hands so it's very intuitive.

If there was a similar .308 rifle, I'd be all over it. The BCL ones aren't quite it for me. The Q fix is probably the closest but gawd dayum is it too rich for my blood.

EDIT: Oh my god the Sig Sauer Cross Sawtooth 16" might be my new grail gun.

Second cz600 trail. The bolt opens fast and smooth enough, the shape and controls are close enough, the attachment points are great. Im considering getting a 300 blackout version. Mine is 556

Nice! My local has a 5.56 and I'm debating that pretty hard. The 300BO seems like it would open up a ton of really goofy/fun reloading options, if you're into that, heh

Pump action rifles could work, too. Like that one from Australia, except that one’s really expensive for what you’re actually getting.

Yea, I think im only aware of the Troy in canada? I dont know much about them though. Most likely cheaper than going with that stanag mag fed Henry lever

From what I’ve heard, they do fine, just pricey for what it is. It’s definitely a niche, as in reality most civilian AR rifles are just semi auto, as they’re pretty much built for the USA, and can be still be used even in heavy anti gun states like California (with weird laws around butt stocks and mag releases). America quite literally has no reason for a bolt/pump action AR.

Gun manufacturers don’t really want to attempt any more AR looking weapons up here, because they get banned on a whim, and thus end up being a waste of money and time.

On a personal note, I just really dislike the idea of a mag fed lever action. I’d rather just get a normal one for style points.

Gotta go with the Australians for pump action rifles. Or Turkish made for the Australian market.  Their laws make pump action shotguns more restricted oddly but pump action rifles are A OK.

2

u/FedInformant Mar 09 '26

That's fair. I think they are sweet, just not willing to dish out 3k for a lever.

4

u/Opening-Ad8300 Mar 09 '26

Yeah, I completely agree. I don’t think $3000 is it worth it for any gun in today’s world of bans anyways. It could end up being an expensive display piece overnight.

2

u/FedInformant Mar 09 '26

Yea I'd be surprised if it got banned but fuck you never know. Just the fact its stanag mag fed might be enough to ban it. Id take a 45-70 or 30-30 too, but they are pricey as hell too

Even getting a cheaper 357 or 44mag is pretty fun to be honest.  Grabbing a Rossi made lever on sale can get as low as 800-900 bucks if you are patient.

At that price point, the money/fun ratio is crazy high!

Got my 357 for 800 bucks and it's a blast at the range. If I had gone up to 44mag, it would be a bit more expensive to shoot,  but I bet launching that bigger chunk of lead would be a lot of fun

u/Lopsided_Ad3516 Mar 09 '26

I picked up the Levtac 92 for some lever fun. Couldn't justify $1500-$2000 on a lever action when I got it so it worked out. Not the most polished firearm but it is functional.

u/Iokua_CDN Mar 09 '26

That was my thoughts too.

Had to do a bit of tweaking to make it work the way I wanted, tighten some screws, soften  the sharp edges on the loading gate.  That's OK, considering I saved 1k dollars.

1

u/FedInformant Mar 09 '26

Yea for sure , Id hop on that no problem

2

u/Iokua_CDN Mar 09 '26

Even in just this economy in general. I can't afford to have 3000 tucked away in a single gun that I may or may not use.

Troy and the Taipan from Australia

I have the SAR and it has been pretty good. Super accurate, just wish it had a slightly heavier barrel, but since barrels are AR compatible I can always swap it if I wanna spend the money at some point. Nice looking rifles too. SAR is the straight pull version but very similar to the PAR.

u/BilboBaggSkin Mar 10 '26

I’d love to get an upper and lower to reuse my AR parts. But honestly the AR ergonomics are just not suited to a bolt action.

1

u/FedInformant Mar 10 '26

Do they have a left side charge handle?

1

u/Dill_Pickle_Tears Mar 09 '26

Wouldn’t a pump AR-style rifle be the best? In terms of similar ergonomics and speed

7

u/[deleted] Mar 09 '26

At least it's not a pump action. That cope is too cringe. Id rather get a lever at that point.

u/HappyCan7250 Mar 09 '26

Beautiful. They're very sexy rifles in all honesty. MRA is a great company too, one of the few Canadian companies that builds genuinely good rifles and offers good customer support. Glad they're still in business and doing well with the Renegade.

I would not say the rifles are genuinely good.

The upper and lower fitment is terrible. They do have a set screw to adjust the tension, but then you can't take the lower off because you can't put the rear takedown pin back in because they are not chamfered. The detent holes for the takedown pins are also drilled too deep causing the pins to get stuck, and the holes themselves for the pins are way oversized.

The pins that are used on the charging handle are too tight of a fit, and get so stuck that it's almost impossible to get them out with vice grips. The company recommends that you drill your bolt carrier to make the holes bigger instead of just sending properly sized pins with enough clearance. (you can't take the bolt carrier out of the rifle or put it in while the pins are stuck.)

The safety selector can pass fire and safe due to the detent holes not being deep enough.

The bolt release slot is also way to large and out of spec for an ar15 bolt catch.

And the stroke of the rifle bottoms out on the charging handle and not the bolt carrier, making the issue of the stuck pins worse with each charge of the gun.

A $500 AR15 is built better than these, and it's 1/3 the price.

If you cant pull the pin, that grub screw is too tight. It just needs to be barely touching.

0

u/FluffyPlays22 Mar 09 '26

If the set screw is barely touching, then it does nothing. The slop is so bad at the front takedown pin that the rear set screw has to be very tight to even do anything. If you take out the pins and add a large chamfer, they can go back in, but for $1500 thats something you shouldn't have to do, and I've experenced it on 2 different mra rifles.

u/blueline731 Mar 09 '26

Are these available in 308? Might be fun to hunt with. Super nice.

8

u/TescoValueSoup Mar 09 '26

Yes, the Maverick model

4

u/ekso69 Mar 09 '26

The Renegade can run 300 blackout with just a barrel swap

3

u/MBGLK Mar 09 '26

more of a cope rifle than a build, just sayin. I dig it though

2

u/weremark Mar 09 '26

I like it. Very Millennial chic. It's like a classic MW2 lover grew up and bought a house and is raising a family.

2

u/AurelianINVICTVS Mar 09 '26

Not coping hard enough there’s still rail space 🤣 jk sweet rig!

2

u/ekso69 Mar 09 '26

Oh man that's nice. Is that a DD stock?

2

u/Even-Somewhere-9554 Mar 09 '26

Love mine. With some practice, I could shoot pretty fast. I could source 5.56 ammo cheaper than .38 special but after my stock runs out, not sure about it lol

The accuracy is spot on, hitting 8in plate at 300yards no sweat. Have not tried for longer distance

2

u/Dude_Oblivious Mar 10 '26

Nice build. You mind sharing the parts list?

1

1

u/CAFirearmSociety Mar 09 '26

What buttstock is that?

3

u/Any_Wind655 Mar 09 '26

Daniel Defence

1

u/iatekane Mar 09 '26

Something funky going on with your Surefire mounting?

1

u/Famous-Magazine-1673 Mar 09 '26

Yes still working on fixing that haha!

1

u/InevitableScale823 Mar 09 '26

Any retailers in Canada selling the Wedgetail Industries ARish pump gun yet?

1

u/Livid-Basket-9193 Mar 12 '26

My Taipan hasn't failed me outside of 25 yards I doubt a semi is that much faster...

-1

u/Livid-Basket-9193 Mar 09 '26

I knew a guy that dropped and modded some semi guts in his mra...it was badass and could never be name banned lol... Looks great except for that fucking handle on the side.

A few of us know what you're talking about and kindly ask you to sydm
You are a fool if you think they wouldn't ban it.

Lockhart had done a renegade conversion to semi-auto, but before accepting orders they wrote to the cfp regarding it, and the reply was the conversion was prohibited. It’s possible others have done this, but it’s not like some secret loop hole that the rcmp don’t know about.
