Fix my gun Canuck Operator bolt head failure

Buddy brought out his Canuck Operator tonight and we ran it like we usually do. We were shooting a mix of miscellaneous ammo: target loads, 3” steel birdshot, and 2 3/4" slugs.

On the last string, we had a failure to extract. Upon inspection, the shell was expanded and stuck in the chamber, the primer was sticking out of the brass, and the bolt head basically exploded.

Never seen this happen before.

The fact that the primer was sticking out kinda makes me think this might have been a double charge from faulty ammo. The only other logical thing could be a 3.5" in a 3" chamber maybe.

Even if it was a double load or 3.5" in a 3" chamber, this should not have happened. The max proof load specs are almost double the standard pressures for 3", and the pressure of a 3.5" shell does not even come close to that. If the gun was designed properly to meet SAAMI 12 gauge specs, then a double charge or 3.5" in a 3" chamber would not shear off the bolt lugs.

Blaming it on the ammo is just straight up cope, this is a common failure on turkish shotguns with this bolt design.

I'd be more inclined to blame the notoriously shoddy/nonexistent metallurgy and heat treatment in cheap Turkish shotguns

A double charge, while still possible, they would have noticed significantly increased recoil compared to other shells fired before. If there first clue was difficulty to eject and not abnormal recoil, probably not a double charge.

If the lugs failed then nothing is holding the shell to the bolt face and the primer can be pushed out.
