Make it muscle memory. When I go out shooting and I’m finished for the day it’s just habitual to check and see if it’s unloaded and there’s no brass ANYWHERE in the gun. Visual check, pinky check.

When I’m at home doing maintenance or cleaning there’s no live ammo within 20 feet of me.

Absolutely brother, whenever I open my safe I clear my weapons again, sure I know they’re in the safe but you have to build that muscle memory. Army taught me when a firearm leaves your sight line, check it, you’ll never be punished for being safe!
