Check. Your. Shit.

Make it muscle memory. When I go out shooting and I’m finished for the day it’s just habitual to check and see if it’s unloaded and there’s no brass ANYWHERE in the gun. Visual check, pinky check.

When I’m at home doing maintenance or cleaning there’s no live ammo within 20 feet of me.

Absolutely brother, whenever I open my safe I clear my weapons again, sure I know they’re in the safe but you have to build that muscle memory. Army taught me when a firearm leaves your sight line, check it, you’ll never be punished for being safe!

Absolute idiot. If you accidentally had a ND make sure your shit is stored properly because you are receiving a visit.

I am very curious what the prohibited magazine was. Based on this guys stupidity I wouldn't put it passed him to have actual prohib mags. But at the same time I wouldn't be surprised if the cops thought LAR mags were prohibited or he had some over 10 round 10/22 mags.

It would probably be best to throw your illegal guns, mags, and fucking explosives out the window too, lol

Is the MP5 full auto and prohibited?

Silencer on the AR prohibited device?

I don't think that's an MP5. I think that's a GSG 16 with the 522 kit installed. The suppressors are probably faux suppressor. There would be a lot more chargers listed if they were real.

Not sure if I didn't look close or my glasses are dirty, but thanks for the keen observations.

As somebody who lives in an apartment building, this story terrifies me. I had my Marlin 336 on my table for cleaning after a range trip last year, and when I opened the action to remove the bolt, it sent an empty casing flying across the apartment. My blood ran fucking cold realizing that after a decade-plus of civilian gun ownership, after all these years of clearing guns being muscle memory, I had a lapse and failed to clear the weapon at the range. It could just as easily have been a live round, and I could have done the same thing as this guy with just an ounce of carelessness.

I think people are too quick to jump to calling people idiots for this kind of thing. Just like you can have someone with a thirty-year spotless driving record who rear-ends somebody one day, all it takes is a moment of inattention or complacency to have an accident like this. It doesn't make the person stupid, but it should serve as a wake-up call that they might be getting too comfortable.

I wonder if they charged him for the ND just to dump charges on him for the prohib mags/weapons and illegal storage, or if they would have charged him even if everything else was squared away.

I dunno what happened, but there's no way that this can happen if you're not being a dumb dumb.
