People who had to tick the box on their PAL application, for no reason other than that you had a past diagnosis from long ago, how long did it take you to get your PAL?

Assuming by THE box you mean the mental health one?

I checked it for a current (and lifelong) diagnosis of depression and was approved in 4.5 months (in August 2022).

I checked it too and today I received a letter asking for clarification. When you submitted your application, what other documentation did you include to clarify the mental health question?

I included a letter from my doctor clearly indicating that they were comfortable with me getting my PAL and a personal letter briefly and clearly explaining why I checked the box and why it wasn’t a problem (for me it was calling back to the doctors note saying I am stable and being treated).

I tell everyone to do this proactively because they will come back and ask.

Yup. Emailed them in December and got a slightly dismissive email with this at the end:

Please expect a 9-month delay from the time the application was received to the Canadian Firearms Program – August 12, 2022.

Then called in January and all they could say is that it's with an official for review

9 months just because you ticked the box, even with a clean record? Wow. If they are still not helping after those 9 months are up send an email/letter to the Ombudsman I suppose, just so that there's a paper trail with them too.

My application, pal+rpal, was received November 22nd, 2021. Reached out a few times and still waiting.

Ouch. Have you considered contacting the ombudsman?

Huh that's a good idea actually. I've reached out to the CFO and my MP to no avail that I didn't even consider the Ombudsman. Thanks for the idea.
