Thinking of making my first purchase on gun post. Seller is asking for a pic of pal and driver's license. Is this normal? Having item shipped seller has over 100 positive feed back.

I ask for both to verify ID isn't spoofed, mailing address is correct, PAL is valid.

If you were selling a gun would you sell it to someone with minimal identification?

It is perfectly normal to verify the buyer is who he says he is.

Lol, the point of the 2 ID's is you have to compare the picture of the PAL to the secondary ID. But do redact the DL info as they wouldn't need that.

(i) in the case of a transfer that is completed in person, whether in whole or in part, by comparing the photograph on the licence with the person presenting themselves as the transferee, and

(ii) in all other cases,

(A) by using the method set out in paragraph (a), or

(B) if the comparison cannot be undertaken using that method, by comparing the information on the transferee’s licence with that on another piece of photo identification that has been issued by the Government of Canada or a provincial or municipal government; and

EDIT: The RCMP do consider a zoom video call to fall under (A)

The transferor (seller) may ask the buyer to engage in a video call or other means that would allow the transferor (seller) to have confidence that the persons presenting themselves as the transferee (buyer) and the licence the transferee (buyer) presents are the same. Alternatively, if a visual comparison is not possible, the transferor (seller) may ask the buyer to present a second photo ID that is issued at the federal, provincial, or municipal level.

https://www.reddit.com/r/canadaguns/comments/vfo4fp/retailers_asking_for_drivers_license_scan_due_to/

Got this from Tenda Friday on a NR order I put in 2 weeks ago:

Dear valued customer, Due to the 18th OIC change, we now have to obtain a secondary ID to verify the identity of the customer and to make sure the purchaser is the one on ID. Please kindly take a picture of your PAL (Firearm license) and a secondary government issued ID with the address on it (Drivers license). We thank you for your patience and understanding.

New Non Restricted Purchase Procedures at SFRC As many of you know, you now have to send in a picture of your PAL and a secondary piece of photo ID when you purchase a non restricted firearm online. This new rule applies to all non face to face transactions both business and private. Video chats to prove your identity will also be an option

Tomorrow we will be altering our invoices and checkout screens to show how to send in your ID. At this time two options will be available. You can email them or you can text them to us. We will have a text only cell phone at the store for customers to text in their order number and ID. All pictures, sent by email or by text, will be purged at the end of each business day.

We have decided to not put in an automatic upload section in checkout at this time as we feel it will make checkout more difficult for some people.

If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Ryan

So have you personally purchased from those stores via their online storefront, and not have to produce secondary id? The law says you need secondary id if you can't compare the picture of the person on the PAL to a person in front of you.
