Should I get the gsg16 or should I get the sks? Currently only have money for one but I’ve heard great things about both

Both? They are really in different classes. What is your goal when making this purchase?

I just wanna own a nice reliable gun that’s cheap and fun to shoot. I’m not a rookie shooter just dunno what to get

GSG-16 is good, but some have reliability issues, and can be picky on what ammo they like.

SKS sure has that beaten. The SKS takes less than 20 seconds to strip. 🤣

My A22 took a bit longer than 20 seconds to strip, but yes, it was fairly straight forward.

Try turning it upside down over the bench, then the dust cover will drop out as soon as it's released.

I don't have either, but I would recommend the SKS first if you had to choose.

Both are fun and affordable to shoot. But the SKS can also be used for hunting, etc.

Though maybe I'd go the opposite way if the person might be a bit gunshy and would be better off starting with a 22.

Very different guns. Sks will cost more to feed. An A22 or 10/22 will be more reliable than the gag (and more accurate than the sks if that's important).

Is pick the sks if you don't want the more traditional rifle of the A22 or 10/22
