This is a very interesting question. I’m with the other replies that it would technically be illegal. I’d probably still be inclined to do it and hope the cops were reasonable, or else fight it out in court and let a judge/jury tell me I should have just left the poor animal suffering. Although, I’m certainly not advocating that you or anyone else should break the law in this situation.

I understand your logic and I'm not saying I disagree with it, but I personally wouldn't take that chance. I don't think it's worth the time, cost, and inconvenience on the hope that someone understands. You don't know how someone will react and I'd rather not find out the hard way after it's too late

I’m a bit of a martyr. I’d like to think I’d do it, knowing I might face consequences, because it’s the right thing to do.
