If I go for centerfire what do you recommend?

Ruger PCC, or SKS, T81 SE, or Norinco T97 Gen 3.

Look at used market.

With the exception of T81, you will get some decent deals.

All of those will be over 1k, except the SKS. Budget $500 for ammo as well.
