Trigger lock vs cable lock for handguns. Which is better in terms of safety and security?

Neither is super secure. Cables can be cut and trigger lock can be broken. Invest in a good box.

Why do a lot of people prefer trigger locks than cable?

A quality combination trigger lock, one for each gun and a spare or two.

They really are only there for security theatre though. I bought a box of five on Amazon for under $50.

Get the ones without a tail so that they fit smaller gun cases.

Probably more durable than cable locks. Easier to use. Not all our stuff locks open so it would be a pain in the ass to try to feed a cable lock through while holding it open. Trigger lock also allows the action to rest closed and not slightly open.

Do they make combo cable locks? If not that’s another reason. Even though both can be defeated, it’s probably a lot easier to cut a cable then to break a trigger lock.

People don't like the cable going through sensitive parts of the gun incase it damages something

Because my pistol doesn't fit in my case with the slide racked enough to put a cable through it. I'm not going to buy a whole new (and less premium/secure) case just to run a cable lock.

I'd have to cut out a bunch of the factory foam if I wanted to use a cable lock.
