Is my RPAL essentially useless now? I got it with the sole intention of buying a handgun for competition shooting/to have a hobby to make my own. Been super excited about it.

But now it looks like I’ll never ever get that. What a waste of time and money.

SBR and castrated submachine guns now are the only real reason to have it which.... unless you want a vector or something in a shorter barrel for whatever reason... that would be the only purpose to that license now unless using a pistol.ect for non federal work and even then you still have to find a range thst will allow those to be fired there.. which now in Ontario is hard.

I am a security professional and plan to apply for an armed gig once my RPAL is in. This maybe the only channel I have.

Yea but you won't get to have your own gun at home for instance. How it works for brink or such will be they have ownership of them and they're kept in lockers till your shift then you sign them out and because you have a rpal you can obtain and use under contract with a licensed buisness to do so.

That’s fine, and expected. I assume they’d have a range or rent one to keep their guards in practice. And that’s what I’m really looking for. Practice. I don’t need one in my home at all times.

In the future, perhaps some kind of legislation will be passed allowing professionals to be issued an ATT for company handguns. Big if, but I’m sure these companies are going to need something to keep their guards in practice.

Possibly but even OPP don't have paid range time. They have competency tests to see if they can safely operate there gun every so often but it more like a range day for them as they all know how to do they're job but ya they don't even get range time but almost every military garrison in canada has a range and they do practice like you would expect. You would think you would need practice but it's more just about safe use not the actual usage and protection part of it. Yoy might be trained on how to move and what to do but range days aren't common even with a company like brink. Pray you never need to use that as a security professional... anyone attacking someone just doing there job is probably not someone to measure who can shoot better with... it's more like how can I survive and as a security professional I would state the bullet proof vehicle is your best bet and not the shotgun and class 2 vest. Just...trust me with this one and now it will be even harder to have a actual skill with handguns if you only have access for work. The guys at the ranges are the ones that can practice almost every two weeks lmao 🤣 give the wait times and days ranges are even allowing pistol days. You much safer with non restricted firearm then the restricted ones.. walking or serving as security in a vehicle.
