I have a question.

I called Alberta CFO, got through, and asked about one transfer in particular. The officer said that these have been taken by the provincial jurisdiction for processing, and they're not able to do anything with it now.

Load balancing of some type is going on. It seems some transfers are pushed to a (seemingly) less accessible office.

Does anyone have insight into this?

Are you certain it was the Alberta CFO office you were speaking to, not the Canadian Firearms Program? If you’re not, it’s likely what the agent meant is that CFP was done processing it and it has been transferred to the provincial CFO.

Well, I called through to the Alberta CFO 9026 extension (number is set up to navigate the automated system). Your question makes me wonder if the call had been routed to some other desk or picked up by someone not acting in the Alberta CFO role.

It would explain the standoffish response, if I was talking to someone who was not responsible for authorizing Alberta transfers. They'd wonder why I'm wasting their time.

I called the cfp, asked a question they said call the alberta cfo. Called the alberta cfo, asked if I was talking to alberta cfo, they said no, but we’re taking their calls.

Interesting, thanks for corroborating.

The cross-CFP/CFO call-answering is obviously intentional. Afaik, it's a shared office with staff serving different jurisdictions. I wonder what's going on (beyond the short-staffed, high-call volume, high number of transfers, etc).

Yeah, I’m thinking it’s just all hands on deck. I was a little put out because it took me about 150 calls over 4 hours, 100 not answered and 49 dropped, just to get through the first time, only to get told to basically call back to the same place and have to do it all over again. But I know they’re slammed so I got over myself in a reasonable amount of time, i think. First world problems and all.
