The wooden handguard needs cleaning?
What gas tube? it uses a piston.

clean the inside of that handguard

Scrape off the rust and see if it leaks. Replacements should be available from Marstar or Numrich

take the tube out of the handguard For most of its length it's just a guide for the piston and spring
