This thread will be used for the "new"-type questions, PAL/RPAL applications, references, CFSC/CFRSC requirements, storage/transport, or other general "new-to-me" firearms ownership questions.

Question. I just received word via the RCMP portal that my RPAL is in the mail. Do you guys think I’d be able to start the process of purchasing a handgun with my license number only? If I’m able to call and get the license number.

Hoping I’ll be able to snag one before the federal ban.

you'll need to know the number if you're buying from a business. For a private sale, you'll also likely need the expiration date, which should be your birthday in 5 years.

The vast majority of websites only ask for the number.

I don't have my card yet, the part of the number they ask for is only the 1st 8 digits, same number as my previous PAL, the expiry date is listed under your profile on the website.

I purchased a handgun with just my existing number and new expiry date.
