Are you allowed to take your restricted firearms with you in the event of an emergency to evacuate? Say, hurricane Fiona or if your house was on fire? There was a condo building that recently caught fire in my neighbourhood and it got me thinking, everybody has access to the building now and can easily steal stuff there that's left behind.

That is actually a great question. I would say without any legal knowledge of this, just my two cents of reasoning, that it would be illegal without an att. Having said that there might be a provision in the act regarding this but I don’t remember ever seeing it.

I don’t think there is any sort of provision allowing for that. I think all you could do is argue necessity and contact the CFO as soon as possible to get the necessary authorization in place.

I remember during the Fort Mac fire the Alberta CFO issued a blanket decree of "take them with you and we'll sort it out later", but I don't think there is a legal provision for it

Read up on High River Alberta where the RCMP sequentially broke into homes to steal guns to 'keep them safe' when the town was evacuated.
