I purchased a restricted firearm online and just received a transfer number from the seller. I'm not very familiar with the new laws when it comes to restricted firearms as this is my first. Am I supposed to use the transfer number for something or what? Thanks for the help.

Private sale or from a store?

If it was a private sale you need to call inwoth your reference number to compete the transfer. If it was from a business you don't need to do anything

It's from a business. I just found the rcmp website with the info on this to be a bit confusing.

Ok, just wait until the RCMP's CFP emails you the transfer approval. Once you have that email (it has the approval form attached), either go to the store to pick up your restricted firearm, or notify the online retailer in case they didn't also receive the email (they should have gotten the email, but sometimes don't).

Then, you are not permitted to take the restricted firearm anywhere until you get your new PAL card (it will now have the transportation condition printed on the front, bottom center), and the registration certificate (mailed separately).

If you are from Alberta, you should be able to call the Alberta CFO's office about 3 weeks after the purchase and they can approve the transfer while you are on the phone. Other provinces, you will probably be in for a long wait; try to be patient.

No, just wait for the xfer to be approved, and the registration to come via mail.

I got a transfer # July 7th for a June 2 purchase, still waiting ðŸ¤
