i heard handguns are restricted but I've always wanted some sort of single action revolver since i was a kid. looking for the lowest possible caliber as well. how obnoxious would it be to own one?

Obnoxious in what way?

Also if you don't currently have your RPAL, you ran out of time to buy a handgun. Transfers are being frozen next month so no one can buy or sell them.

Literally just Google ‘Canada handgun transfer freeze.’

It was announced at the end of May. Trudeau is pushing through an OIC to ban the transfer of handguns.

It’s not an ownership ban as people who already have them can still use them as normal, but once the OIC goes through in October, you won’t be able to buy or sell them anymore.

So come October, you are stuck with what you have. The current wait time to get a license processed is like 6 months so even if you submitted your application tomorrow, you won’t even be close to having your RPAL in time.

Do you think that'll affect my pending 3 transfers? I have transfer #s for them from CFO already but nothings come thru yet. Bought June/July/early August

No. It’s written in the bill that transfers already in progress prior to the freeze are not effected

Not obnoxious at all. People would likely want to shoot it and talk about it.

Just making an assumption - it sounds like you do not have a handgun license (RPAL).

If you’re interested in handgun ownership I’d start the process immediately, as it might already be too late. The handgun freeze is expected to take place early fall.

Liberal government has had it out for legal firearms owners for a while now. Basically political theatre but if you haven’t heard the news they banned handgun imports and plan to freeze the market in sept/Oct.

If you don’t have a restricted license already on the way, you’re likely never going to own a handgun in canada. Barring of course a future government overturns this.

It’s controversial in present times, but not, itself, obnoxious. Only your specific behaviour around handgun ownership will determine whether you’re being obnoxious.
