What is actually checked during the 28 day "background check" phase? Is it just a check of your official/criminal records, or do they go looking for your social media etc too?

I'm not worried because I have nothing to hide and don't get involved in politics online, but I'm just curious what they go looking for.

Well all that aside, my question still stands on what they background check you for.

They essentially just call your references, check to see if you have a criminal record or any reason at all why you shouldn't have a gun.

As far as I know, they don't check social media but it's the government so I wouldn't be surprised.
