How long does it take to transfer a restricted handgun? I know it varies, but the buyer is getting it antsy. It has been a week and I initiated the transfer (Saskatchewan) to him (Buyer in Quebec).

Any insight to how long it takes? I obviously cannot ship until the transfer completes.

Tell the buyer it is in the Quebec CFO’s hands now. Unfortunately he will be in for a long long wait. I am assuming your transfer number is in the 6xxxxxx. The Quebec CFO is currently processing 5925xxx (my friend received his transfer last Friday). He probably won’t see his transfer before December.

EDIT: Make sure the buyer has also phoned in or else the transfer is not initiated (both need to call). And no, you cannot legally ship him the firearm until the transfer is completed as the firearm would still be registered to your name until then.
