Start to finish explanation of the handgun transfer process please.

reading around on here it would seem that even once the transfer is approved I will still have to wait longer for the registration to come in before I can bring it to the range?

Could someone briefly explain all the steps of the process for me?

Private transfer:

You pay the seller and provide PAL information. They call their CFO to initiate the transfer. Seller gets a reference number and provides it to the buyer. Buyer calls their CFO and completes the transfer. Once it's approved the seller will be notified and they can ship or allow the buyer to pick up the firearm.

Transfer from a business:

Pay, provide PAL information. The business handles the whole transfer process and will ship once the transfer is approved

Once you receive your new firearm you need to wait for the registration certificate. You must have the registration (a photocopy is fine) with the firearm whenever it's being transported. If it's your first restricted firearm you'll also get a new PAL card in the mail, the new license has the ATT condition attached to it

So how long of an overlap can I expect between the gun showing up and the registration coming?

Usually a week or two but right now they're pretty busy with all the pre ban transfers so it could be longer
