I still say go for it as a precaution since non- restricted firearms could get reclassified, bills can be repealed, etc. But I'm probably biased and trying to justify applying myself.

This government has run its course. Sooner or later we will have new leadership and sure as shit won’t be bloc, NDP or greens. With all the scandals popping up left right and centre libs are on their last leg

Will a new Con government reverse any of these bans though? I haven't heard them talk about it at all.

My trainer at the firearms course told us that unfortunately, gun legislation only goes one direction in Canada, the best we can ask for is no new regulations. Not enough people in Canada care enough for politicians to make it an issue to run on.

If you read the platform, the conservatives plan on reversing the may 2020 pic (ar ban) and that's about it

The PCC plans on making (good) changes to the firearms act as well as reversing the oic, taking away the rcmp's ability to make (probably illegal) changes to the frt and over all is pretty supportive of Canadian gun owners unfortunately however, they will likely never get a seat and only split the conservative vote which makes me hesitant to vote for them.

Yes the PPC have zero chance, so basically we have to hope the CPC cares enough. It doesn't look good for gun rights in this country.

restricted semi auto rifles/shotguns, restricted extremely short bolt rifles and shotguns, also m1 carbine is restricted

tbh all of the above are more or less already on the chopping board, but anyways

Not sure how other provinces work, in Quebec you need to be accompanied by a member or be a member to use a restricted firearm at a range. Therefore you either have to have a good friend that will let you tag along or pay for a range employee (package). If you get your RPAL you can become a member of a range and go shoot alone. At the range I go to, they rent firearms to members for a small fee of 10$ but you need to buy your ammo from them (at fair market value). I understand you will probably not be able to own your own in the foreseeable future, however you can still practice the sport if you wanted to.

If I had to take a guess, I am sure many ranges will start offering a larger handgun rental selection, this will allow existing and new enthusiasts to continue practicing the sport. If not, the sport will simply die of attrition.

Yes there are restricted rifles you can enjoy until a new government provides more favorable gun laws. Could be 5 yrs could be 50. Either way might be nice to have it ready. Also i imagine more and more guns that are NR right now may become R
