I’m still waiting for my licence but I had a couple questions about the process for buying restricted firearms that I hope you guys could help with.

On Silvercore’s website it says “By joining our gun club, you will meet the Canadian Firearms Programs (CFP) issuance requirements in order to obtain a Long Term Authorization to Transport (ATT).” I thought that you received an ATT automatically when your licence is issued?

Also, I heard that its required to email your CFO when buying a handgun, what is that about?

Hello, welcome to the firearms community, I pray for your bank account as I pray for mine…

Other than Ontario and Alberta you need to be a member of a range to legally purchase and own restricteds. Silvercore is just saying that if you can’t find a local/affordable range locally, you can join with them and it counts for the same in the eyes of the cfo.

If you buy from a store they can do the transfer online and all you have to do is wait for the email to come saying transfer approved. Then you can either pick up or have the gun shipped. In 2-3 weeks after that you will get your guns’ registration and a new Rpal(even if you just got your first) and then you can take it to a range.

If you buy from a private seller, they need to call in the transfer. Once they get a reference number then they give it to you to call in with your information as the buyer. Then the same process with the email, ship/pick up, registration and new Rpal(only for your first restricted purchase)

I hope that helps, feel free to ask anything else.
