Question about storing ammo if it's locked in a ammo crate can it be in the same room at the firearms? (It's one of those bass pro plastic ammo storage crates)

I think if you lock the ammo crate itself in another container, then by definition, you should be fine.

Putting some distance between the ammo and firearm doesn't really make significant difference unless you lock one of them up in a safe or heavy gauge steel box.
