Buy one with a longer barrel and use it for hunting.

Too heavy and I don't want to hunt with a 9mm

Then it will remain a range toy.
Not that there's anything wrong with range toys, I have a few. But you can't live by worrying about what might happen. Buy it now, enjoy it now. It might get banned but it's not a pistol, therefore not nearly as dangerous as my flintlock pistol.

(also don't expect it to shoot to 300 yards)

Aren't all restricted firearms range toys to us. I'm not worried about it being banned. I'm worried about the handgun buy/sell freeze. There's a difference. Why would I expect a 9mm to shoot 300 yards? That's just silly.
