What makes certain ammo brands/types better than others? Quality control seems like an obvious one but even the same brands have so many different types?

Specifically for .22 LR rifle, what should I be looking for? Thanks

Edit: appreciate the responses!

CCI patriot pack works great in my pistol and rifle. The cci hollowpoint high velocity didn't cycle nicely. Remington thunderbolt also cycles nicely in my guns. Other people might (and usually do) find the opposite true. I would suggest buying small amounts of different ammo and find what your guns like. Typically the higher the velocity, the better it cycles.
