My detailed Ontario RPAL application process!
TLDR: It took 5.5 months to be approved for an RPAL even with having to resubmit a photo. Don’t use printer paper. Only use PHOTO PAPER for the ID picture. I think I’m one of the lucky ones that has been rushed through.
(sorry for the long post I’m hoping it can help more than one person)
My girlfriend and I did the course Oct 21, 2021. It took 6 weeks to get our course papers in the mail needed to apply for for the RPAL.
I sent mine and my girlfriends application in separate “protected & tracked” envelopes on Jan 21, 2022. It was marked as received on Canada Post tracking on the 24th.
March 12 my girlfriend and I were charged by the RCMP for the licences. After this we were able to sign in to the IWS. Before the credit card charge we were unable to sign in and received an error message when we tried.
March 20 I received notice in the mail that our photo printed on regular printer paper could not be accepted. They mentioned the new photo scanning machine only works on PHOTO PAPER. We got our photos taken at shoppers drug mart that day & mentioned it was for our PAL. They cut it to size and I mailed them both back that same day attached to an “application number” they mailed me.
June 16 my girlfriend and I logged into the IWS and our status changed from “completed initial review” straight to “your licence has been issued”. Due to my childish impatience I checked the IWS daily and this was the only change in the status.
At this time (July 06) my girlfriend and I are still waiting on our cards. I hear that one of the printing machines have broken and to expect an additional 2-4 week delay (4-6weeks total) for card printing. Reading this sub, the current timeline really seems to be between 22-27 days total. I will update this post when we receive the licences.
