Here's a couple advices for those trying to transfer handguns while we still can:

  • They won't allow you to use the business line anymore, so no use trying. It worked for me 2 weeks ago, but now they just transferred my call to the regular line (1-800-731-4000) once they realized I wasn't a business.
  • If you are buying the gun, you can still start the transfer! However, between private parties they will still want to talk to both persons before approving the transfer. To start the transfer as the buyer, make sure you have these infos (at least that's what they asked me):
    • Firearm model and caliber
    • Firearm serial number
    • Firearm registration number
    • Full name and PAL # of the seller.
  • Use an auto-dialer application on your smartphone. This works great if you're at your desk/computer/couch and put your phone on speaker until the call goes through. I have an android phone and I used this one, works great: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.lithiums.autodialer . If you have an iPhone, I'm sure there's an equivalent. With this app, you can also set as an extension number the tones to dial to navigate the menu automatically. For instance:
    • Phone number: 18007314000
    • Extension:1,,,,,,,4,2
The commas are pauses; I put a bunch of pauses between 1 and 4 because there's a mandatory message that plays before you can dial the next number in the menu. This is how I was about the get someone on the line.
  • Don't give up! It may seem like there's nobody working at the CFO because your call got dropped 50 times, but it's still happening. I was able to speak to someone today (2022/06/16)

Use 1 6 1 instead of 1 4 2. You're guaranteed to get a hold of someone. You just need to ask if they can help with a restricted transfer because that's the non restricted PAL check line. Hang up and call over and over until you get someone who can help you with the transfer. I got 3 transfers done each within about 20-30 mins and mostly the person helping doesn't seem to mind. Also try and get a conference call with the buyer if possible to get it done then and there. They don't mind doing so after you've given your info.
