If we have any hope of maintaining any sort of firearms rights in Canada...

We have no "firearms rights" in Canada. Not currently, and I dare say we never will. Even if a conservative government formed a majority, anything they did would simply be undone after the next political swing. It would require ensconcement in the Charter, and there's just no reality in which that happens.
