See you haven't talked to many inner city folks, every 2 days in my city someone comments on "gun shots" or "machine gun fire" that turns out to be a car backfiring, train cars colliding with each other at a loading yard, or something innocuous.

My lawnmower was burning off some bad fuel from winter storage, was popping, sputtering, backfiring. Thought the tac unit would be rolling in any minute.

Have to admit as a firearms owner I was freaking out a bit, kept running all these scenarios in my head of neighbours reporting gunfire and my house swarmed by ERT over a stupid backfiring lawnmower.

I ended up parking the mower in the middle of the yard away from the house so people would track the sound out in yard and see the lawnmower instead of hearing Pop! Pop! Pop! Coming from garage.

This is our sad new reality I’m afraid.
