so trudeau just said that they’re “taking new steps on gun control” in addition to moving forwards with letting provinces ban handguns.

the liberals create criminals out of thin fucking air and the sky is blue.

u/AlmostUnpleasant69 May 25 '22

God theyre doing this every month. Can they either dump their load or give it a fucking rest?

I purpose a experiment. Ban all guns. And see if violent crime/gangs/shootings go down. And if it doesn’t (which it won’t) then never ever talk about banning anything again and rewrite the FA.

u/AlmostUnpleasant69 May 26 '22

Someone brought up to Marco Mendocino last time that the violent crime index has gone up since the ban and his answer was that they need to implement more regulations. They simply don’t care.

u/discostu55 May 26 '22

I love it. Our current laws aren’t working so here are so more laws. And if those don’t work we have more laws

3

u/AlmostUnpleasant69 May 27 '22

That’s the logic.

I just got this damn hobby, getting into hunting this season. Are these damn pandering liberals gonna take away it all from us legal gun owners because of someone who probably wouldn’t be able to even buy a gun in Canada anyways.

17

u/huntcamp May 25 '22

Yes. But you can’t buy a house either here so not surprised.

u/throwa37 May 25 '22

Alright, almost certainly the new bill, then. So their red flag stuff, whatever magazine stuff they came up with, and OIC buyback related stuff. I doubt we're going to see any curveballs, considering the insider leaks from a couple of weeks ago regarding the handgun ban stuff didn't mention anything else we didn't know about.

6

u/CanadaGunsMod May 26 '22

Yeah, this should be what has already been popping up.

Why would Trudeau bother making the effort to release an announcement like this unless the move was going to be controversial?

Nah, we can expect to lose much more before the Liberals are through.

10

u/Amaterasu127 May 26 '22

Their proposed magazine laws would be a functional ban on 90% of firearms.

Yup. Grave dancing and never letting a tragedy go to waste

This is exactly what I expected. I'm guessing it will be introduced just before the next break in parliament. The parliamentary calendar says that the last day before September is June 23rd. I'm guessing the first two weeks of June.

So no national handgun ban, based on this comment. RIP Quebec but it looks like Ontario will avoid it for at least 4 years. The "new steps" could be anything from more red flag laws to magazine laws.

It will probably be their campaign promises, so more or less what they introduced before they killed parliament. The magazine laws amounted to a new unusable charge for modifying a magazine.

big microstamping energy in the magazine proposal

Not gonna lie, living in the City of Vancouver and if I had to choose I do hope that the rumor of an R cap is true rather than a municipal ban LOL. Or worse, they do both.

2

u/Batsinvic888 Bats888 on YouTube May 26 '22

I can't see Horgan stopping municipalities from banning guns, so it will be up to the whim of city council. Honestly, Vancouver is probably the next most likely to ban after Quebec.

1

u/drain-angel BC May 26 '22

I've written to Horgan's office before and got a canned response back regarding this when it was first being discussed. I'm afraid you might be right, but I'd suspect with the whole museum thing & gas prices right now, Horgan is probably taking a hit and that might give the BCLP a shot in the arm in the rural areas that they lost to the BCNDP.

That being said, the BCLP would probably do the same shit, but it's about political theatre and optics. Or maybe this is just copium and the dipshit worthless COV council is going to fuck me over.

RIP my man i left that dump for AB and damn does it feel good to be among like minded people out here. Lower mainland was eating me alive with all the slick brained media consuming pretentious stuck up twats.

u/Kaffarov .40 Salt&Walnuts May 27 '22

Yeah I'm not sure how much more I can put up with the type of people here and don't know why I haven't left yet.

2

u/jpnc97 May 27 '22

Couldnt raise my kids there and live with myself. Born and raised there, but what it is now, is not home. Were friendly over here in the prarie!

u/drain-angel BC May 27 '22

I just have to finish school here - once I'm done with school I'm planning my career on a move to Calgary at the very least. I'm thankful that I have the opportunity to do so, I feel sorry for my friends stuck here. Could be worse though. Could be Toronto.

It's a shame though, BC is one of, if not the most prettiest places on Earth and the only place where you can make a career here is in possibly one of the largest cesspits in the province.

2

u/jpnc97 May 27 '22

Oh ya, i agree with that. The added bonus is i can afford to go on trips there now, should i feel the urge to go to the ocean or lakes. Better than toronto but thats also a ground level bar to set

I think there is one bit of hope that emerged in the past few months. When we got the updated look at PAL numbers BC ranked 2nd highest in percentage of RPALs after Alberta. Clearly there is a large enough voting block that could turn an election, and that may impact the political decision.

Also the BCLP is in a strange place. They may even change the name to something along the lines of "The BC Party" signaling a commitment to a more centre-right/right wing party. A lot could go wrong for Horgan in the next 3 years.

4

u/drain-angel BC May 26 '22

That's true, especially given the seats in the Okanagan and FVRD can't afford to be lost and Horgan will piss off a lot of people there. But the province is running on fumes and only managed to report a tiny surplus because of how fucked housing is. Trudeau is waving a billion dollars to this program, I think he's going to take it, and that means COV and the Island = fucked. I do think if enough noise is made about this, maybe they'll back off but I doubt it.

Also personally I can not bring myself to ever support the BCLP. Especially after Clark. They can rebrand all they want, but they'll be Neoliberals at the end of the day, and they're not going to do jack shit about this either. Sometimes I wish there's a real pragmatist party here to keep both of them on their toes.

I live on the Island and I highly doubt anywhere other than downtown Victoria proper will ban handguns. Just the simple geography means that if Langford or Saanich were to ban handguns, and prevent travel through them, it would be impossible to travel to VFGPA. They would get a lot of pushback from basically the entire GVicA. The Nanaimo mayor said last year that he sees no reason to ban handguns and would rather have money for housing and homelessness. No way it happens on the rest of the island. It really is just Victoria and Vancouver proper that may ban handguns.

If all fails and handguns are banned in BC I'll just look to move to Alberta until I can get to the US.

u/drain-angel BC May 26 '22

I don't think there'd be a transport prohibition - because that'd make it impossible for someone living in North Van to make it to a range without having to go all the way north to Squamish, which is completely full. I think it would be just a storage/residential ban, or people would have to have them stored at LGS/central storage facilities (which is a terrible idea but whatever).

So given that, it's likely that it'd be Vancouver, Nainaimo, and Victoria (which was really what I was referring to as the Island). That's a lot of people.... including me :(. I'm planning a move to AB as well, but I need at least a few more years to be ready for that.

Why do you people drive 10 below the speed limit when the rest of the PNW drives 20 above by the way?

4

u/Batsinvic888 Bats888 on YouTube May 26 '22

I really don't think Nanaimo will ban them. There is too much business and the range is popular, which reminds me of the recent victory we had here. The BC Wildlife Federation actually managed to get the province to back down on Bill 4s range requirements. If they can do that I think they can persuade the province and municipalities to not ban handguns because it will very easily lead to the death of some ranges. That not only impacts sport shooters but also fudds and police. VFGPA is where the majority of the lower islands cops get their training and certification and I'm assuming the same is true for Nanaimo's range and police.

Why do you people drive 10 below the speed limit when the rest of the PNW drives 20 above by the way?

There is no consistency. On the Pat Bay driver's regularly go 10-30 over the speed limit. On certain parts of regular roads we go over 10 and other we go under 10. It's probably because there are a lot of old people here and they determine the flow of traffic.

This is a good idea. Less shootings if they make murder illegal!

2

u/[deleted] May 26 '22

So many damn murders going on, I hope Trudeau takes a stand and uses his powers for good. Murders should be banned

3

u/throwa37 May 25 '22

"Instituting" or "introducing"? Because we already know they have a re-up of C21 (I think it was called) in the works that will have something to do with magazines, and funding Quebec's handgun ban.

2

u/Amaterasu127 May 25 '22

“New steps” would imply introducing addition bullshit, probably the magazine ban if i had to guess
