I will scrap the Firearms Act in its entirety and work with experts — including law-abiding firearm owners — to replace it with a new law that takes protecting our streets just as seriously as does defending the rights of Canadians.

I find it amusing how so many in this community are duped by these promises to replace the Firearms Act. Replace with what? Another law that prohibits the same guns? It's an empty promise and a smoke screen against the real issue. There's nothing stopping Brown from working with experts and lawful firearms owners to repeal the OIC under the existing framework of the Firearms Act. For him to make the repeal of the Firearms Act a precondition to working with lawful firearms owners is a red flag more than a good promise. He's basically making an excuse for inaction by introducing a more complex precondition rather than just saying simply "I will consult lawful firearms owners to review the OIC".

Lol you're getting downvoted for talking about the actual issue too early. It seems mods also want to beat around the bush just for political entertainment.

Back in February, I got downvoted and mod deleted my comment for talking about handgun ban and about electronic registered rifles.

I mean, do you trust Brown? Given his conduct in this race, he could easily be fibbing.

Especially if he gives with the timing of this tweet.

In terms of timing it's not his fault. It was tweeted at 7am PST and the Texas shooting didn't happen until around noon.

In general, Brown is pretty meh. He's better than Charest and could actually win unlike Lewis or Baber. But he certainly won't be at the top of my ballot.

It's not his fault but I'm talking about if he deletes the tweets due to him getting dogpiled on.

As for the second part, agree to disagree. He's slightly better than Charest but forming a non-aggression pact and discussions about a 2nd round upset involving one of them means they are compromised between one another. I don't think Lewis or Baber have a chance at a general, but I'd rather not legitimize those who are willing to burn down the electorate. Wouldn't Atchinson be a better moderate pick?

Right now Atchison is #1 on my ballot with Pierre in #2. There is a steep drop off from here in terms of how I view the candidates. Lewis and Baber have no chance in a general election, they won't appear on my ballot. Charest stance on guns is an instant disqualifier, he won't appear on my ballot. I think I'm gonna put Brown #3 just in case something happens and it's him against the ones I won't include on my ballot.

I like his demeanor, he's a good balance between centre-right and right wing, and he's performed well in the debates.

I think that's a reasonable take. But Lewis deserves at least someplace in mine just solely for taking the CFSC alone, and I feel like she just gets too much shit for what's basically a pro-choice position literally anywhere else in the world.

For me, probably #1 PP #2 Lewis #3 Blank/Atchinson/maybe Brown.

Yeah np, he here's the article, https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/patrick-brown-resigns-ontario-pc-1.4503040. He was also notorious for doing shady deals when he was on barrie council until people got fed up with him then he moved to Brampton and became mayor there and I've heard some stories from people there is aswell. So you just imagine what the liberals will dig up on him.

i dont know, it seems like she has regrets but did he force himself on her? Seems like she wasn't interested and he stopped but she kept working for him because it was a good job? am i wrong? I dont care from brown but just wondering

I don't know if he did or not the article doesn't go into great detail about it, just that he kept making advances toward her, but she did continue to work for him. The whole thing ended up getting dropped. And he tried sueing ctv news for 8 million for defamation but that also ended up getting dropped. From a political point of view there's more then enough ammo for other parties to use against him come election time. I know I don't trust him.

Absolutely horrible timing for such an announcement given what happened in Texas.

Edit: I don't know why people are downvoting. I never said I personally disagree with his proposal, just that it was released at an unfortunate time.

It's unfortunate from a PR standpoint, but it shouldn't be. Canada is not the US and any outrage over the timing just shows the ignorance towards firearms in Canada.

I don't know why you're being downvoted either, but sadly, if we're going by proximity to American mass shooting tragedies, there's never a good time. The venom in their politics and lack of mental health supports is resulting in a shocking number of these atrocities lately.

Lets not dance around just how easy it is to get a gun in the US especially privately, and the reluctance of the political sphere to change anything about that in the name of [diminishing] freedoms.

Those other topics are big, but this one makes them far worse.

I'm not dancing around it, I think it's less of a factor than its made out to be (though it is obviously a factor).

Something I've been thinking about lately: when you consider that every fourth household in this country has guns in it, you'd expect far more of these shootings to be happening here, if access to guns was the problem that the grabbers make it out to be. And it's not like the PAL does much more to filter people than a NICS check in the States at point of sale.
