What do you guys make of PP's pledge to "do a rewrite of the FA"?

A re-write of the FA doesn't mean things will be better for firearms owners. There are many things that don't make sense in the FA, but sometimes the idiosyncrasies work in our favour and we get to own Tavors and SBRs and other things that are banned by feature in even some states. A re-write of the FA would presumably make the rules more logical, but logically restricting certain types of firearms is a restriction nonetheless.

Previous proposals of a FA rewrite is to base NR/R/P on OAL only, I believe the proposal by CSSA in the Harper era was 660mm, which would put almost all Bullpups in the market with a 16" barrel+ into NR.

Of course everyone will have different opinions on what a rewrite/SCS would mean, but that's just giving a general idea and I'd assume CSSA/CCFR would be consulted onto this.

I do think a rewrite is needed, but there is truth to what you say. For example, I can see them removing the ability to ban firearms by name. If that were to happen I can see a future LPC government banning all semi-auto autos because they can't ban by name.

They can just write the ability back in. It isn't actually that difficult to change the law once you're in power, and because we have no property rights there's no other protection against that.
