What's the standard for the photo for PAL application? As in, what kind of paper should it be printed on? Also, should I wait and follow the Restricted course and then ask for PAL/RPAL or can I apply for a PAL right now and later on apply for RPAL once my course is done?

You apply for both at the same time to save time and money. As for photo they will give you a small paper at your PAL/RPAL course with the dimensions they want and you can have it taken at any place that does passport photos. You can use regular printer paper and a at home printer but it usually does not come out clear. You can try at home with a printer, if it doesn't print clearly the cost for a passport photo is at most a few dollars.

With COVID and measures in my province, the RPAL courses are delayed until further notice. So I was wondering if I could apply for PAL since I already passed that course and once the measures are eased up, follow the RPAL course and apply for that license then.

Yes you can get your PAL started now and upgrade to a RPAL later or you can just wait to do your RPAL course because the completion certificates do not expire. I would say to just get it started if you're doing the courses separately because the wait times are so long these days.

Thanks for your answer! Also, on my PAL application papers I'm asked what kind of gun I want to own in the next 5 years. Since I'm only applying for a PAL but plan on upgrading to an RPAL in the next couple of years, should I say that I plan to own restricted guns or only non-restricted?

Go ahead an select both. It won't be a problem, I wouldn't want them to think you're lying by only selecting one. If they call in and ask that you only have the non restricted course report but selected both, you can just tell them you were going to upgrade later on when a RPAL course became available.

The wording is awful on the application, it’s says in the next 5 years but really they want to know what you are applying for now. I got a call to confirm my requested acquisition because I had checked NR and R but only sent in $61.32 and CFSC because I hadn’t taken the CRFSC yet (but am hoping to in the next 5 years). If they didn’t reach me they would have sent me a notice which would delay my application further

Good to know. The application really is worded weardly even in French. Kinda confusing.
