And on a side note, are the scopes sold with the savage rifles any good?

My opinion, deer don’t need 30-06. So depending on what your “as such” is, maybe consider a faster caliber. Many hunters love .270win.

If your looking at 1000 yards, the current general consensus is 6.5mm Creedmoore. 30-06 definitely is not a 1000m caliber.

Thanks, but im set on at least a 30-06, few friends use them and as long as you place your shots good with good cartridges, it always turns out quite nice. My “and such” is for when i decide to pick up some larger animals such as moose, elk, and blackbear etc. Really dont want to get too many rifles before im moved into my own place. 6.5 will have to wait, ill be doing long range on a budget for a while.

30-06 seems like a good choice if you may go after elk, moose,or bear. .308 would be a good idea too. It has better options for lower cost plunking, and hunting rounds are almost identical to 30-06, plus’s better for long range.
