Fix my gun / Modding What should I do?

Post image

First shot of the day my sks did this. Anyone know what caused this and how I can fix this? Is this a gunsmith problem? I should add its stuck, I tried popping it out both with a ram rod and prying it out and its stuck pretty good

I second anyone recommending the wooden dowel. Do not use steel, you may damage the rifle.

+1 for wooden dowel, and a rubber mallet to hammer it in.

Yes, it may only be an SKS but there's no point risking any damage to it.

Nowadays I wouldn't say "only an SKS". theyre our prized rifles up here now and nearly $1k! They should be a national symbol of Canada!

Fellow Canadian here, the SKS holds a special place in our gun culture. Being one of the few semi auto centrefires still available that actually works.

My point was that some people were saying to shove the steel cleaning rod down the barrel. While the gun could probably take it and still be fine, it seems pointless to risk damaging it.

I haven't looked at prices recently.. I bought a French tickler earlier this year for 800 and thought that was rough. Who knew it would get so much worse?

A brass rod should be okay, you'd want one that was small enough that it actually fits into the case that's stuck. If it just rests on the top and you hit it, it can mushroom the top of the brass case. This would make extraction harder and increase the potential of damage.

Yes, brass, take an empty case with you, buy the largest rod that easily fits into the case mouth

Or, is the barrel threaded ?
Make a threaded adapter that connects to a grease gun and pump the bbl full of grease.

The grease idea would probably work. Making an adapter might be tricky if you don't have the tools, but it could be as easy as a fitting threaded for the barrel (no idea if barrels have a standard machine thread) and the other side threaded for a zerk. The cleanup after will be sucky though.

It definitely works, but it's usually used on stuck bullets not cases.

Use a cleaning rod. "Steel" shouldn't hurt the barrel as long as the steel isn't harder than the chrome lining, which it probably isn't.
