Transporting firearm NR & Restricted without a self owned/rented car

Can a RPAL/PAL holder transport their licensed firearm without a self-owned/rented car, legally to range?

The firearm (rifle or pistol) will be collapsed/folded (as needed), unloaded, cable or trigger locked, locked in a rigid gun case.

Some ideas :

1. Bike/E-bike with a lockable rigid metal/polymer carrier (similar to ones used by food delivery folks) built-in or securely permanently attached to the bike.
2. In locked trunk of a taxi.

Has anyone ever done so?

Has anyone discussed with a cab company that if they allow transporting firearm to range and back?

I do not drive because, well, I never had to. And it will take much more effort for me to be proficent and confident in driving. I can ride bike, however.

Ogio rolling suitcase, locked, with all cases inside. If it's good enough for the RCMP to roll around with their tac gear, it's good enough for you.

Provided its transported legally, it doesnt matter as long as its not against their policy. That being said, its not a taxis business whats in your case.

Realistically though, find a range buddy and chip in for gas.

Worth remembering that for a NR firearm it just needs to be unloaded while transporting; so throwing it in a backpack and hopping on your bike is fine. Concealing it and locking it in the truck etc. is only a requirement if your leave the vehicle and firearm unattended (ex going into the shop at a gas station)

There aren't any laws that I'm aware of regarding not being the owner of the vehicle you're transporting firearms in (it's not a crime for your buddy to drive you to the range); but you're going to want to look at the rules of whatever service your plan to use, and probably call them to double check

Basically all forms of public transit are going to be off limits either due to regulation or internal policy.

Practically, you need a car.

I don't have my restricted but my understanding is a firearm being transported only has to be unloaded, as long as you are directly with it.

I feel like you could have an unloaded Rifle/shotgun and walk it down the street to a range if it happened to be close enough. And maybe zip it into a bag to keep anyone in the public from freaking out.

Obviously a restricted firearm follows different transportation rules

Sure that would be nice but in reality this is probably among the most "car demanding" hobbies you can have. The sheer bulk of the equipment made worse with our stupid "transport storage" laws, the legalities surrounding the act of transporting in and of itself, social stigma of gig drivers or the general public potentially seeing firearms, and the distance of ranges from residential areas all compound to make this so.

I have the learner license. I am not confident that I will be able to drive properly. Never done in my life. Always biked. At 40+, I don't know if I can develop car sense.

You could do what I did and go to driving school.  I thought I was too old to learn how to drive but I was able to get my license this year at 34.

Yeah ive heard clear labelling is kind of the work around if youre lacking a good option. Ie packing numerous individually locked guns in some cloth and a duffle for a move or what have you. Having a "firearm inside" tag somehwere helps.

Edit not meant like maliciously, as in packing to move house with individually locked arms in a container or smth

Would strongly recommend against using an instrument case, can be considered intentionally concealing a weapon. Just use a a regular gun case, and if anyone asks what's in it it's sporting equipment
