Any suggestions for a 10/22 set up ?

Just got my PAL and was looking for a decent 10/22 rifle to start my own firearms collection !! I gladly take any suggestions.

Buy a basic one + 1-6 or 3-9 scope + 2 mags + 5000 rounds of Federal or CCI 22LR.

Go take a Mapleseed course with it.

From there you'll know what you want to modify.

This is the correct answer OP. Only thing to add is make sure you buy one of the new 2026 models, they have an upgraded trigger and auto bolt release from the factory.

If you can get one with the 'new' cleaning port that's also a plus, makes maintenance way easier too

There's a new-ish base kit that has a better trigger, cleaning port, and mlok(?) in the stock to attach a bipod. It comes with a hard case and a shitty scope that's good enough to 100m, and runs about $450-500 on sale. I strongly suggest this over the older models. The price difference is made up by the trigger alone...the older default trigger has something like a 6lb pull, and disassembling it every time you need to clean it gets old fast.

There are sales every holiday. This kit tends to be one of them.

I love the Stainless 10/22 takedown model with threaded barrel in a Backpacker stock. You can store 3 magazines in the stock and it fits together disassembled.

You’d want to focus on one of those, no? Usually what makes a good long range rifle makes it worse as a fast nimble rifle and vice versa

My personal 10/22 build started as a basic non takedown Stainless model. MDT Field stock, butler creek 18" Stainless bull barrel, found an older metal trigger group and filled it with volquartsen guts. Polished the bolt face, SBI 597 Mag adapter, and a vortex 3-9x40. Its been a fun build and shoots 3/4" groups at 100 yds once I tuned up the action screw.

I wouldn’t recommend focusing on long range when you’re starting, just stick basic and you’ll start to figure out what you actually like later. I’d even disagree with getting a scope and say just start with irons.
