Recurring Canadaguns Politics and Debate Thread

Please post all your Gun Politics or Ban-related ideas, questions, initiatives, comments, suggestions, news articles, and recommendations in this thread. This thread recurs every 14 days.

First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

Hmmmm do yall think alberta going to flip NDP next election based on this by election?

We gonna be setting up NDP with all the tools they need to ban every gun ....

Won't change much for the bans because it falls under federal/public safety.

Don't get me wrong, the safe guards some provinces have put in place are huge at slowing down the confiscation but the buck stops at the federal level

Definitely. People move from the east and then vote for the same shitty policies that made the east shitty.

You can’t ban guns at a provincial level from my understanding.

You can certainly push for them. Look at what Quebec has managed to do. And BC with Eby vocally supporting the bans and calling gun owners "Gangsters and wife beaters". NDP in Alberta would toe the same line.

That's support rather then actually ban. As far as actually banning goes that does comes from the federal government. However you are correct. Provinces can be more cooperative and willing.

Its not indicative of anything. Nenshi can rave all he wants that it means something but it doesnt. Nenshi, the former long time mayor of calgary had to run in edmonton just to get a seat. Let that sink in for a moment. And for all his complaining, hes yet to put forward any solutions to anything. At least federally, PP has had carney poach more than a few ideas.

Then the NDP won the election by only 582 votes. With an already low turnout that saw 1000 and change votes go to the other new conservative party. Intellectually honest people will accept the fact that most of those 1000 votes would likely have stayed with the UCP if there wasnt an alternative on the right.

So no, its not a wide enough margin to call it anything but an election on a monday. And, if anything, it more tha  likely will galvanize people to get out and vote against the NDP in 2027.

..Nenshi didn't lose he stepped down and didn't rerun.. his approval rating was 65% his final term.. he also used Edmonton because it was quick n dirty and they needed to, he already announced he's leaving it for Calgary next year.

I understand lots of people don't like him but not sure why we just make shit up lol
