Application / Regulation advice SBI G3 chassis 10/22 OAL question

Hi everyone, I’m planning on a 10/22 build with the G3 chassis. I was planning on using a Neumann folding buffer to picatinny adaptor on it. But eventually I want to buy a shorter barrel around 12 inch for it. With the folding stock I’m sure it’s going to be shorter than 26 inch.

So will I have to swap the stock for a telescopic buffer type adaptor that would be min 26 while collapsed? And would that even still be legal? Considering I could remove the stock and it would still be fireable. Or does the fact the buffer tube would require tools to remove make it ok? Our laws are so vague and I don’t wanna get in any hot water over it!

For rimfire, as long as the OAL when *at it's shortest* is 26" or greater, you are good. Whether that is collapsing stock or folding. I've seen many builds with an 8" barrel and a collapsing stock that meet the OAL requirements when at it's shortest. For a folder you're typically looking at an 18" barrel minimum for rimfire though that does depend on the stock/chassis and the action length which is why something like the Sig Cross can have a 16" barrel with a folder and still meet OAL minimums.

So having a telescopic buffer tube stock on it would count towards the OAL? It’s just crazy because a couple hex bolts taken off would bring it back down to 26 but still fireable

Welcome to Canadian gun law, where the rules are made up and the sense don't matter. Muzzle devices also count towards OAL (but not barrel length).
