Buy recommendations 22lr options
Good people,
I was hoping the internet could point me in the right direction.
I’m new to the hobby, I’d like something I can modify, maybe do some simple comps with.
Something that even if it’s flawed it’s something I can figure out myself to learn some more about the gun or just send it in for a claim and won’t be screwed.
I live in Vancouver so shops that might help me out in person would be amazing as well
Ngl Ik PCC are banned now but something 9mm would also be highly appreciated other then 22

Go to reliable gun, on Fraser just south of Kingsway.

we got 10/22 and tm22 here which you canbuild up by yourself, if you want fixing or repairing you can choose old .22 gun or jw15a

Depends what you want to do, and how much you want to spend. What kind of competitions do you want to participate in? Reliable Gun is the best shop in my experience, those guys are awesome!
For NRL22 (precision rimfire), I recommend either a CZ457 or a Tikka t1x. Great community support, lots of upgrade options and unless you decide to drop some serious money on an r700 pattern rifle you will never outgrow either platform.
For multigun or other dynamic shooting disciplines, TM22 if you don't plan to tinker or upgrade. Mags are cheap, generally reliable, and you can have full 25 rounders that don't suck. 10/22 if you want a gun with a great aftermarket of parts and upgrades. 10 rd mags are reliable but the larger ones are pretty hit or miss.

17hmr is a nice rimfire option too… flies flatter and much more accurately. I have a heavy barrel CZ 457 with a Vortex scope…. Not cheap but not crazy expensive.
But as others said, the 10/22 can be customized etc for the stock, but that has zero impact on performance.

Hey Bud, Vancouverite gun owner here too. Give me a shout in DMs if you want to link up to tear some paper, but the folks at Reliable Gun on Fraser are great. Their new location in Langley is banger too.
As for your question, the Ruger 10/22 is what youre looking for. Dependable asf with enough aftermarket support to make your platform look uniquely yours. I was looking at getting a G36C conversion kit to make it a cope plinker.

Another vote for Reliable Gun and I’ve heard good things about Tiger Arms in Coquitlam.
There’s also Italian Sporting Goods near the PNE.
Of course there’s Bass Pro Shops in Abby and Tsawwassen but I personally like to support locally owned shops.

Sounds like you just summed up a 10/22 and a Henry Homesteader (HH is the last semi auto PCC out there)
Slowly getting new options for more modern Homesteader options which is awesome.

Everyone loves the 10/22. I prefer the Winchester Wildcat. Short, light, cheap, accurate. Built in top and bottom rails, strips with no tools, eats anything I feed it, except shot shells. Just in case you wanted to try something different.

Henry homesteader is the last 9MM PCC that's not banned. Ruger 10/22 is really upgradable and reliable, but can only get 10 round magazines for it. Afaik other .22 semi autos can have larger capacity mags BUT since Ruger specifically created a handgun all magazines were capped at 10 rounds because they fit interchangeably and anything more is prohibited.

Buy TM22 Pro and pray you get a good one. Dress up whatever you want with it.
If you are going to buy one, get 12-16in and make sure to ask the store to test safety switch/ trigger before taking it home
You either would get a good one running on all type of ammo like mine ( my 10/22 is not picky but it hates certain ammo, my TM22 pro eats everything I feed her) or a dog shiet
Homesteader is nice but it will cost you more to change furnitures
Moreover, .22lr is still cheap to shoot

Any Ruger 10/22 model or Derya TM-22 that is all aluminum. Start with the 10/22 to get your feet wet. CZ457 for a reasonably accurate bolt out of the box. Both are incrementally upgradable. Tikka or Bergara if you have money to burn.

Another vote for checking out Reliable Gun in Vancouver or their beautiful new Langley location. Reliable actively supports NRL22 and PRS rimfire comps, so they know what to consider when it comes to comp guns.
If you wish to shoot PRS style matches, I'd stray away from a semi auto, the accuracy and consistency just isn't there.
CZ457 is sort of the go to if you want a upper mid range gun.
However, before you purchase a PRS rifle I would highly recommend to reach out to a local match director and go spectate a match prior to buying a gun. Everyone at a prs match will be happy to show and tell or share their opinions!

Ruger 10/22 a nice gun, but ..... I tried around 50 rounds, and I got bored 😴. You can take a look cz 457 or tikka t1x. By the way, you may need a proper stock, bipod and scope for comp. They will cost you serevel times than the gun. If you just for fine, buy a tm22 pro.

Oh hey i’m also a fellow vancouverite gun owner. I would recommend the ruger 10/22 personally. I own a lot of 22s and while each of them exceed at a different aspect the 10/22 is something i consider to be above average across the board. Price, reliability, quality, ruggedness, accuracy, etc.
