Recurring Canadaguns Politics and Debate Thread

Please post all your Gun Politics or Ban-related ideas, questions, initiatives, comments, suggestions, news articles, and recommendations in this thread. This thread recurs every 14 days.

First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

Anyone else kinda enjoying how many people are getting screwed over by the buyback….like as if we didn’t warn everyone this is exactly that they’ll be dong!!

It’s a reap what you sow situation. People were actively warned not to participate by the community. That the government doesn’t have there best interests at heart and liteally getting the firearm deactivated makes more sense. But some people just don’t listen.

getting the firearm deactivated makes more sense

how? I got back ~90% of the value of my guns by turning them in which amounted to tens of thousands. Or I could have gotten $500 for each to get them deactivated only to have them wasting space as a depressing reminder of when I could enjoy them

Honest question, how would you feel if the government decides to grandfather all the holdouts? Because realistically they simply cannot start the largest mass arrest in Canadian history. So grandstanding or permanent amnesty is likely.

I would be content with my choice because I don't care to own guns that I cannot shoot. For comparison, I knew a grandfathered FA owner who practically forgot he owned the thing because it was entirely useless (and near worthless to boot). My semi auto gimped-mag rifles are far less cool than that and I don't see myself missing them if they can't be shot.

Luckily the majority of restricted owners had a backbone and declared nothing.

Ah, the six month old Reddit account telling us all how great shitty government policy is again.

How did I insinuate that it is good policy? I didn't even get the full value I paid for the guns inflation aside

Ah it's the "But I participated in the buyback program and I got money!" If everyone was like you and did that there would have literally been not enough to go around. You chose your 30 pieces of silver Judas. Others would rather a 'depressing reminder' as that is motivator to keep fighting for what it is lost and to keep what remains.

Truly, good luck with that

It’s not to late. Maybe use this money for good and pay for peoples CFSC courses to help increase the number of pal holders. Let’s get the numbers up to 3 million by the end of the 2020s.
