Recurring Canadaguns Politics and Debate Thread

Please post all your Gun Politics or Ban-related ideas, questions, initiatives, comments, suggestions, news articles, and recommendations in this thread. This thread recurs every 14 days.

First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

Don't know if it's just me or if others feel similarly, but this hobby has started to become more of a burden than something to look forward to. It is due the gradual culmination of a few things:

1- range trips have become more expensive, gas wise and time wise.

2- cost of ammo going up. Besides 22LR, I feel like I'm just burning money, when I'm finding myself prioritising it for other things in my life.

3- the responsibility aspect. The paranoia of keeping firearms at home. It's starting to stress me out. I also keep reading stories of break-ins and other unfortunate events surrounding intruders, where the legal gun owner is facing criminal charges, months of stress and legal battles to clear their names, just because they happened to own firearms.

4- let's not even get into the political climate and the constant uncertainty.

All of these factors combined, I've lost my interest to go out and have fun, and am taking a break for now. I am this close to get out of the hobby completely though.

I don't intend to sound like a doomer, but these thoughts have been in my mind for a while now.

the third point is a bit stretched imo. one of the recent cases where a homeowner was charged, was because he saw them stealing his car in the driveway, and shot at them while they were going away, while shooting his neighbours house.

I'm not saying they don't get charged, but I'd rather be facing charges then dead.

Although we don't have a castle type of law (which I wish I did), I feel like as long as your somewhat responsible with the use of self defense, you have a case for yourself

It definitely is a gray-zone. Homeowners even get charged for defending their homes without firearms. Maybe only the worst kinds of cases make the headlines and maybe I've been reading too much into them that they've gotten to me.
