Recurring Canadaguns Politics and Debate Thread

Please post all your Gun Politics or Ban-related ideas, questions, initiatives, comments, suggestions, news articles, and recommendations in this thread. This thread recurs every 14 days.

First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

ive noticed a big change in society, I live rural, and have space to shoot on my own place, have been for years. Never had issues... now, in the last two years, ive had police attend my place 6 times due to "someone calling about gunshots".... I live in an area that had a big cottages ( read, Air B and B's).

They have my cel number, but always drive out. IDK who is more inconvenienced , me or the Police,. but man, its getting old. One starts to feel like we are doing something "wrong" after a while.

Cops never hassle me BTW, always cool about things, but ...

Covid ruined everything. Urbans fled from the city and took their cancer with them

The urbanites who want to escape the city tend to be rather flabbergasted when they find out people shoot guns out here. They hate the stink of farm animals, they can't stand the sound of tractors, think all the wildlife is cuddly and harmless, unless it's mosquitoes, spiders, and wasps, in which case they freak out.

I really don't get it. Like, what did you expect?

They expect a sterilized, curated, controlled and artificial outdoors experience. This is what happens you grow up in an environment that’s completely manmade and your only day-to-day interaction with nature is passing by the park on the way to work.

There was an incident in Yellowstone when some tourists loaded up a bison calf into their car because they thought it was cold and brought it to the park warden.

They ended up having to euthanize the animal because it started following cars around, and the herd rejected it because it smelled like humans.

This is what we have to deal with now. People who cannot make the distinction between wild and domesticated animals and who make assumptions about the law based on their own personal beliefs and opinions.

They literally expect a Hallmark movie. They get the smell of cow shit, the odd explosion, and considerably more meth use than they would think.

I figure the explosion of certain social media trends, especially those aimed as women, might be colouring people's perception of the countryside. If anything, my 30 some years of experience out here says it can be just as gritty and unpleasant as the city sometimes.

I was reading the minutes of one of our local hunting regulation committees in the municipality I hunt in every year and the item that made me laugh was the annual report by the police stating by far the outcome of most of the shooting calls they were getting related to hunting were them informing ingoramuses that hunting was legal.

It would be hilarious if it wasn’t so much of a depressing indication of just how ignorant people are.

One time my group were met at the parking lot by an apologetic police officer at the end of our day. In that jurisdiction they have a commitment to provide a report for every interaction.

So this poor officer who knew very well we were hunting legally had to spend half an hour taking statements from a volunteer in my group - it was me - who stayed behind to show that yes we were hunting legitimately. And here we were standing next to a big sign that said "Hunting season Sept to March" along with other hunting regulation signs.

Big waste of time and resources

Ignorance, maybe, but I wouldn't discount Karens just trying to cause so much irritation that the city decides it's not worth the reports either.

A big part of this is the covid-inspired exodus of very urban people into rural areas. .. even people in the Yukon are complaining about it.

Another problem is running into "overlanders" with the Temu traction pad and rotopax gas can kit everywhere you used to be able to go out and get away from idiots.
