News / Politics / Activism Assuming the coming Supreme Court challenge rules in the governments favour, are we expecting OIC #4?

Worst case scenario, the Supreme Court ruling rules in favour of the government, deciding all previous bans were just.

What do we expect? Another OIC wrapping up the remaining semi-autos by model?

New legislation announced banning firearms by newly defined features?

Carney basically said last shooting they need to go through the “legal process” for banning, ie no more OICs until the SSC decides if it’s legit.

If it is legit, the next OIC will come soon after.

If it’s not legit, I expect they would begin the 18 month legislation like the handguns did.

We are now in a strange limbo state where only RCMP FRT swaps are possible fast bans - see my poor N4S that was lost in a boating accident.

So assuming a future OIC is in the works. Are you thinking it will be limited to semi-auto stanag pattern rifles, or wider reaching?

I’ll tell you what I did - I sold my Turkish semi “hunting rifle “ for a makasi, as I expect if the makasi / Carmel go under, the Turkish ones will be going the way of the dodo as well.

Don’t get me started on crusader, I already learned my lesson on a crypto with no FRT.

If you read the “expert” panel on firearms (which was going to be the path forward of Public Safety), their recommendation was to prohibit all semi autos with detachable mags of over 5 rounds (Stanag, Sks promag, etc). Take that as you will.

The "expert" panel that was so "expert" they wouldn't even tell us who the "experts" were. The "expert" panel that didn't even give any evidence for why it made the "expert" recommendation it did.

Such a joke.

I mean, they did try to sneak that semi auto ban in with the handgun freeze. They just couldn't pass the last minute amendment in the house because its fucking ridiculous.

And the airsoft ban.

It would be interesting if the SKS were caught up in the same ban criteria as it wasn’t designed to have a detachable mag.

That would leave a lot to interpretation on historic firearms that have since been modified to accept a magazine other than OEM.

They touched on that too, essentially saying something along the lines of the stock configuration being ok but taking a closer look at modified SKS's. Whatever the fuck that means.

It means that they hate the fact your culture is interesting, and want to ban anything an outside observer would consider as such.

The new school of gun culture really isn't like the one of the Fudds, and the enemy wants guns to die out with the Fudds.

That's all this is.

So like SKS-D’s and SKS-M’s, or like a bubbaed normal SKS? What does that even mean?

Nobody, including them, knows.

Any SKS that has been “modified” to take a magazine that holds more than 5, and is easily removable.

That would require a new system of sorts because as is, a firearms status is determined by the receiver alone.

In California they came out with workarounds to such. For example the bullet button magazine release - because if the magazine requires a tool for disassembly, it doesn't qualify as detachable. A bullet tip being a tool.

Good on you for getting the gun you want. Take it from me who was contemplated whether to get more handguns when they were considering the municipal handgun ban idea (Remember that?) I followed my heart and got the handguns I wanted and the government switched from a municipal handgun ban to a handgun freeze. Who knows what the future will bring, but for now I have what I want and I can shoot what I want. The Makasi (and Carmel) are strange anomalies. They resemble the guns that were OIC'ed, but the government did not factor in these guns when they already decided to push through the confiscation program for the already-banned guns. So the government realistically cannot OIC the Makasi and Carmel to be dealt with by the same program. Sure, the government can just ban and do whatever they want. But the parameters are not the same. Might as well get what you want and hope for the best.
